The Death of Bunny Munro – iPhone Application
Nick Cave’s new literary release “The Death of Bunny Munro” has been released as an iPhone application.
Rather than (only) setting it up as a download on the iTunes store as an Audio Book (which he has also done) the application combines the audio experience with the text of the book, so you can choose to read it yourself on the iPhone, or to listen to the book and music on your headphones. Apparently Nick wrote the first chapter on the book on his own iPhone, so little wonder that he’s thought long and hard about how to distribute it electronically.
The audio experience was thought through in order to give the reader/listener an audio experience that they possibly have not had before whilst listening to an audio book. The website tells us this about the listening experience:
The audiobook uses a groundbreaking 3D audio spatial mix, specifically designed for listening on headphones, creating a fully immersive experience for the listener. The 3D and spatialised sound was created by Terence Caulkins, Ryan Biziorek, Anne Guthrie and Raj Patel at Arup Acoustics.
So… whatever that really means…
But the App comes with video of Nick reading some of the book and a number of other nifty tricks and gizmos including the musical score written and performed by Nick.
I’ve really gone over my electronic purchase limit for the month so I’ll be waiting a couple of weeks before I put this app on my phone, but am keen on hearing anything from anyone who has bought the app and since read/experienced the book….
I wonder if he’ll ever tour this book, I’d pay the money to sit and listen to him read the book to his original score…
