Forge feels the need to respond to Carson, (pardon the sarcasm…)

So, it seems that forge decided to write their own response to Carson’s book about his thoughts and views re the Emerging Church…blah blah blah blah, blah..

I never got to read the original paper, (as im on holidays and am trying my hardest to not do work related stuff) nor have I read Carson’s book, nor will I even link to it on Amazon, nor can I get a copy of the paper because they’ve removed it… but I’m glad that I didn’t waste my time reading it, I doubt that Carsons book will do the EC in Australia any harm, infact I know of three people who have read it, all of who saw it almost as a waste of time. The reality is that Carson’s book won’t do the EC in Australia (whatever that is in Australia – and it’s not just Forge) any harm as I doubt anyone cares for Carson’s work (at least in my circles).

The reality is that I doubt Carson’s criticism even is even viable in Australia and most Aussies won’t be reading it, unless they’re interested in the EC which in general will mean they will most likely disagree with his writing.

Why Forge decided to enter the debate is beyond me, most of us doing EC stuff in aust don’t give a crap, and while they can speak for the forge network they can’t speak for all of us in Australia. And if they were indeed camping themselves in the more conservative end of the spectrum then I’m wondering if I am missional or if I’m post-missional… It does continue to raise some concerns I have with the Forge crew, even though they are doing a lot of great stuff…

That’s my 2 cents worth, and as I’ve not even read the paper I cant even comment on if I agree with forge’s original statement or not, I’d put $5 that I wouldn’t and another $5 that it’d end up in my rubbish bin within the hour if I had.

Yet I managed to bitch about it for a few paragraphs… Guess I’m more pissed off about the idea of someone responding on behalf of the EC in australia than I was that Carson’s written yet another book that I can’t be stuffed reading or promoting to my networks.

Perhaps I’m a little too grumpy this evening…

Perhaps Forge and Emergent need to drink less Caffine, drink some decaf, become a little less high strung…

Edit: I bet that Carson’s publishers are jumping with glee, It kind of reminds me of the scene in Pump Up The Volume when Mark returns from the community forum to discuss his radio program and then all went home to listen to him on the radio.

Duncan’s posted a blow by blow account of the saga over at pacifichighlander

There’s a good review of the Carson book over at Ken Archer’s Blog

Seems I did end up with a copy of the original 9 pager from Alan and Frost, so I’ll give it a read after my holidays end…

Tomorrow…
